Description
Low Maintenance Eco Lawn Seed Mixture 8340 An economical blend for those properties where a ‘wilder meadow look’ is desired rather than the conventional ‘manicured lawn’. This is also the blend of choice for those areas where soil is less than ideal. Contains: Chewings Fescue, Creeping Red Fescue, Hard Fescue, and Perennial Ryegrass. When established, the grasses in this blend form a very heat and drought resistant turf. These varieties thrive in the sun and also produce a very nice looking lawn in semi-shaded locations. Sow new areas at 1.5 kg per 61 m² (3.3 lb per 660 ft²). When over-seeding existing turf, sow at 1.5 kg per 90 m² (3.3 lb per 990 ft²).
How to Grow
For a new lawn, spread good clean topsoil to a depth of 15 cm (6″). Break up any clumps and rake level. For repairing old lawns, mow grass close to the soil surface. Rake vigorously to remove clippings and accumulated thatch. Add top soil to fill in any low spots then rake smooth. Grass seed can be applied in spring when the soil warms and again from mid August to late September. Note that cold soil can greatly extend the normal germination time. Apply twice at half rate over the area in a criss-cross pattern. Rake the seeded lightly to just cover the seed with a fine layer of soil. Roll once with a roller at half capacity if the soil is light. Water with a fine spray for two or three weeks to keep the seedbed moist through the germination period. Mow for the first time when seedlings reach 8 cm (3″) height. Maintain if desired at a height of 8.75-11.25 cm (3.5-4.5″). Germination takes 10-21 days.
