Description
Sweet Basil Seeds 3120. Heirloom Herb.
Approx. 400 seeds/pkt (700 seeds/gram)
This is no doubt the most important herb in flavouring tomato sauces and pesto. We recommend continually harvesting leaves to delay flower production, as flowers normally signal an end to vegetative growth. Plants can grow to 60 cm in height although 30-45 cm is more common. Annual.
How to Grow
Sow sweet basil seeds outdoors in mid-to-late May, then every two weeks through August, or start them inside and transplant after the danger of frost has passed. Basil can be grown indoors on a sunny window or under lights during the winter. Indoor Basil plants are not long-lived nor do they produce significantly. Indoor plants tend to be lanky and produce smaller leaves. Outdoors, basil is a low maintenance plant & prolific– all you really need to do is provide water when necessary. Lightly feed with a general-purpose fertilizer, as too much can adversely affect the production of the essential oils responsible for flavour and aroma. Basil plants are grown for their leaves and flower clusters. Germination takes 7-12 days.
