Description
White Yarrow Seeds 6990 (Achillea millifolium). Native of Canada. Perennial.
Approx. 200 seeds/pkt (6,100 seeds/gram)
This European native has become naturalized throughout Canada. It is often used in formal rock gardens or perennial borders – especially in hot, dry sites. Further, it makes a very reliable ground cover when massed in sunny, hot, dry, hard to grow areas. This tolerance to dryness is quite interesting considering it can be found growing in wetter sites in the wide. Fern-like aromatic foliage produces swarms of showy, flat-topped, white flowers for months in the garden. Plants spread by rhizones often forming mats. Provides long lasting beauty for beds and borders – makes a beautiful cut flower too. Blooms mid-summer to fall in full sun. Flower stalks reach upwards, averaging 45 cm in height. Perennial hardy to Zone 3.
How to Grow
Start seed indoors in a soil-less medium from mid-February through mid-March but do not cover the seed as light is essential for germination. Keep at 20° C for the 7-15 day germination period. After that, grow on under lights then harden off seedlings and transplant them to a sunny spot in the garden. Direct sow seed outdoors in early spring where it is to bloom. First year plants will often flower.
