Description
Purple Top White Globe Turnip Seeds (Summer Type) 2160. Heirloom Vegetable.
Approx. 1,700 seeds/pkt (400 seeds/gram)
To clear up some confusion, this is not a rutabaga. This turnip is an attractive older cultivar introduced before 1890. It produces round roots with a purplish-red top and a white bottom. The flesh is quite crisp and mild tasting. Younger leaves are suitable for salads.
How to Grow
Similar in culture to other members of the Brassica family. Sow seed in mid-spring 2-2.5 cm deep and 2.5 cm apart in rows 30 cm apart. Thin to 12.5 cm apart after germination. Harvest when the roots are 7.5-10 cm across. Not to be confused with the Rutabaga or Swede. Germination occurs in 7-10 days.
